March 13, 2012, Chattanooga, TN – The local chapter of the American Red Cross will be pausing from its tornado response work to honor some very special heroes at their 5th annual Hometown Heroes luncheon on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at the Chattanooga Convention Center from 11:30 AM to 1 PM.

Even before the first tornado touched down in East
Tennessee the Red Cross was mobilizing volunteers. The
threatening weather pattern and potential for formation of
tornadoes had the attention of the Red Cross emergency
services leadership team.

When disaster struck the area on April 27, 2011, the Red Cross was there. Within hours of the first tornado strike, Red Cross volunteers were mobilized, opening shelters and assisting those in need.
